Perfect Smartwatch
A list of features that would make me a perfect smartwatch.
eInk. I’d like to change to the display update period (i.e. once in a minute, when seconds doesn’t matter), or show the current time only when manually hitting the designated button.
GPS. With custom update interval too.
Maps. OpenStreetMaps, preloaded with cable connection.
Heart rate monitor.
Altimeter/barometer. I guess such feature might requre additionl space and special engineering. But I’d love to have it to predict weather.
Temperature sensor. It would be great to have an external wired sensor to measure temperature of various objects, like steaks and engines.
Waterproof. Sustaining a hevay rain or underwater immersion for a couple of hours would be enough.
Solar-powered. This is a very important feature. I would also like a low-power when only time is displayed, allowing the watch to operate from solar energy for many months.
USB-C. For charging and data transferring
FM/AM radio. That would probably require a 3.5mm jack for the headphones, which will also work as an antenna.
Universal lugs. Just throw in a cheap nylon NATO-strap in the box, I’ll figure it out on my own.
Open-source. Firmware available for customization, hacking, and community development
Data and storage. All collected data should be stored in plain format (json, xml, csv, etc.) and available for accessing. There could be some extra space to store personal files.
NFC security key With support of FIDO2, OATH-TOTP, OpenPGP, etc (Like Yubikey).
Power reserve indicator. Show how long it would last without recharging.
