Appolo Cinema
Appolo movie theater was opened in 1910 and somehow survived until modern times. While all Soviet-era cinemas have been demolished in XXI century during the reign of President Saakashvili (the Modernizer), thie one survived thanks to its architectural uniqueness. Apollo was the only movie theater in Batumi until 2024, when Cavea Grand Mall was opened.
Mid-2000’s interiors are already retro. A small exhibition of Georgian movie posters in the hall, dimmed screen, squeaky seats, cheap beer and popcorn, add to a unique experience of visiting an authentic entertaining facility which left untouched by digital husstle. Though people still take selfies on the outside.
Think of a Georgian version of Vista and New Beverly in Los Angeles.
